Which of the C’s did you choose?

Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity.

Why did you choose them? (What did you want the students to develop?)

Character: Resistant, endurance.
Citizenship: Thinking as global citizens; empathy and ability to care for others.

Collaboration: To cooperate in teams; interpersonal abilities and team-related abilities; to learn from others and contribute to other people’s learning.

Communication: Ability to communicate in a purposeful way using a variability of methods; ability to adapt the communication to different groups.

Creativity: to make relevant and exploring questions; to consider and follow-up new ideas and solutions.

Which activities did you selected to support the development of these C’s?

I presented the chosen topic “plastic in the ocean” to the pupils. We watched some documentaries and had discussions on plastic waste. We discussed about the importance of our attitude toward it and what can we do and how can we help. So we decided to plant some trees and pick up the garbage in the surroundings. My students also decided to make teams of 2-3 children and go home to their neighbours and explain them how they should collect the garbage so that we can help to this issue, too.

How did you experience the impact of the activities on the students?

After we watched the documentaries and discussed this topic, my students became more aware of our impact upon the environment and on the fact that we can also do something about this, even if we live at thousands miles distance from the ocean.
